Sustainability as a treat | 2020

Collaboration with Johanna Hehemeyer-Cürten

With SONNET155 we aim for a desirable product, which represents sustainability as a treat rather than a burden. The design of the bag follows a minimalist approach to enhance its texture and translucence. It is fully biodegradable in water or soil as it is made from a composite of two raw materials: cellulosic production waste from the textile industry and pectin, a plant-based polysaccharide and a by-product from juice production. Both materials can be sourced locally and – in combination – bring forth a sustainable material, fully integrated in a biological life cycle.
The bag can be worn, used and loved until it starts to dissolve. Our goal is to develop sustainable design strategies in order to create beauty and pleasure within the whole life circle of a product.
